Printmaker Dionne Haroutunian creates artwork informed by her cultural heritage (Swiss-Armenian) and a powerful sense of social justice. Previous series include "Bridges" (2002) and "Standing Witness: Remembering Armenia", exhibited at Baas Art Gallery in 2001. Writing about the works in "Bridges", the artist says:
"I focus on the lives of ordinary people in warstruck countries, and the way in which our lives are interwoven with theirs. I find myself searching for intimacy through close-up portraits, resolved to highlight our universal similarities."
This quest for the human and the universal is a visible and compelling thread througout Haroutunian's work.
Dionne Haroutunian is a recipient of the prestigious Neddy Award (2002), a founding member of Seattle Print Arts, and co-founder of BallardWorks, an artist's studio building and arts center in Seattle, Washington.
