KARRIE BAAS
| Owner of Baas Art Gallery, Karrie Baas (BFA Cornish College of the Arts) is also an artist whose imposing figurative paintings refuse to be ignored. Interested in how the psychological and physical selves are manifested, her work often begins with photographs that are manipulated or layered to dramatize their subjects. In her work the face becomes a terrain for paint, taking physical shape from the brushstrokes, and suggesting that our own history is as visible in our faces. In her new work she investigates the social interactions and behaviors exhibited at weddings with surprising effect. |
