LEAR'S QUEEN PROJECT

"Queen Lear"

Acrylic on Canvas, 1992

59" x 57"

$7500.00

Mentioned only in passing in Shakespeare's play “King Lear”, the Queen takes center stage in a cycle of paintings by Laura Pizzuto-Velaz, created over a ten-year period.  Painted with bravura gesture and rich impasto, the cycle of paintings examines the Queen through her empty personal effects and fragmented gestures, which only serve to deepen the question of her virtual absence in the play. An

unpublished manuscript, "Lear's Queen and Her Daughters", completes the project.
